2004 Hospice Regatta Fort Lauderdale

Its not everyday that your sailing club takes the first nine places in an 85 boat field, but that's exactly what Cat 44 did in the 2004 Hospice Regatta off Fort Lauderdale beach.

Of course the weather was perfect for the multihulls with an Easterly wind providing reaching conditions for most of the course and no upwind / downwind sailing. The Hobie 16 Class started 43 minutes after the first monohulls and still managed to take positions 2 through 9.

In the Hobie 16 class, Danny Steyn and Stacey Tinsley sailed a perfect race with a great start, arriving first at the A mark and then sailing a good leg to the B mark chased hard by Willie and Colleen. Willie passed Danny just before the B mark but were overtaken on the long leg back to the finishing line. Danny beat Willie by 40 seconds and Scott and Tracee were third, a further 4 minutes and 10 seconds behind Willie.

In the Multihull Class, Brett Moss devastated the field with his new Marstrom A-Class Catamaran. Brett started 46 minutes after the first gun and still won the race by over 5 minutes and 17 seconds. Boy does that boat fly. Don Balthaser started at 41 minutes and was the first non-beach catamaran and the 2nd large boat across the line finishing in 11th place.

Great sailing by all the Cat44 club members - keep it up guys.
